The Story Behind Feburary 2026
February 2026 was designed by Crispina. This month feels especially joyful and festive, a little nod to her deep love of knitting with that sweet Valentine’s touch we often lean into for February. When we were printing this one we felt extra lucky because the registration was fairly loose, which always makes the printing process smoother and means fewer mistakes along the way.

Knitting has been part of Crispina’s life for years. She has made so many hats for the people she loves and has been part of a weekly knitting group for a long time. I still remember the first hat she made for me and I wear it almost every day in the winter. Violet, her daughter, has also fallen in love with knitting over the years. February is extra meaningful because it is Violet’s birthday on the 10th, which is why that date is highlighted this month.

Right now Crispina is knitting a red hat for our family friend Philis. The red hat has become a symbol of resistance in Minneapolis and across the country. NPR recently shared more about how the red hat became connected to protest and community, and it is powerful to see how something handmade can carry so much meaning.

Knitting as we know it today has such a long and beautiful history. It grew out of older fiber traditions and slowly spread across cultures. Some of the earliest known knitted pieces date back to the 11th or 12th century in the Middle East, including cotton socks found in Egypt. Even before knitting, people used techniques like nålbinding to create fabric by hand. Over time knitting moved into Europe and became especially important in colder regions where warm clothing was essential. Even after machines were invented, people continued to knit by hand because of the care and creativity it holds. It is a craft that has always been about warmth, connection, and making something with love.
We hope you love this design as much as we do. We are already beginning to dream about our 2027 calendar and would truly love to know what you would like to see next.
