The Story Behind December 2025
December was created as a collaboration between sisters Lily and Jamie. As the months went by, Jamie kept changing her design and struggled to fully commit to one idea. Lily has always helped Jamie with her designs, so she offered to step in and help. Jamie originally drew two or three peppermint shapes and then used those as the foundation for the final piece. Lily traced the drawings, copied the mints, and slightly changed them again and again until the design came together. It was also Jamie’s idea to make the peppermints look as though they are flying through the air, almost as if a child had tossed them up into the sky.
Our family loves peppermint flavored treats during the holidays. One of my favorite traditions is making peppermint bark. It is incredibly easy to make, and here is a recipe if you would like to try it: https://sallysbakingaddiction.com/peppermint-bark/
The history of peppermints, and especially candy canes, dates back to 17th century Germany, where a choirmaster bent sugar sticks into the shape of shepherds’ crooks to help keep children quiet during nativity plays. By the 1840s, candy canes became popular as decorations for Christmas trees. Their popularity continued to grow, and they were mass produced by the 1950s. While the reason peppermint became the chosen flavor is still unknown today, many believe it was selected for its cooling taste, which mirrors the winter weather outside.
We hope you all enjoyed the final month of 2025 and that 2026 is equally as colorful and bright for you!
