Our little home away from home has been in our family since 1976. The year before acquiring the property, our parents took a weekend trip—just the two of them—to the Cape. It was their first visit to this part of the world, and they fell in love with the area, the ocean, and the calm of the Outer Cape. The following year, we went for our first family Cape vacation, and while we were there, they began the search for a home we could call our own. While looking at various properties, we found 155 Meetinghouse Road.
The Outer Cape is home to the National Seashore. The ocean side of the Cape is protected and operated by the National Seashore, which keeps the land in its natural state. There is no buildup along the shoreline, adding to the uniqueness of Eastham and the Outer Cape.

This house has been a place to return to throughout my life. It has brought many years of adventures, family time, a slower pace of daily living, and so much more.
Although the Cape has grown tremendously over the years, the location of our house has remained essentially the same. There are family homes and vacation cottages along the street, creating a wonderful mix of locals and visitors alike.
The Ffrench Cottage is located just a hop, skip, and a jump from the ocean beaches, Nauset Light, and Coast Guard Beach. There is also a bayside option—First Encounter Beach—which is town-run.
This house has been a summer tradition for our entire family. Every year, for as long as I can remember, we have gone to the Cape for Memorial Day weekend. While we’re there, we prepare the house for summer rentals and enjoy time outside—whether at the beach, on the bike path, or relaxing in the yard on one of the hammocks.

Before school lets out for the summer, Crispina and I each choose a week for our family vacation at the Cape. During this time, we spend most of our days at the beach. We especially love Coast Guard Beach, where you take a National Park trolley to get there, it adds a sense of adventure to the day.
When we’re not at the beach, my family and I enjoy walking around the neighborhood, riding bikes, or lounging in the hammocks. After a long beach day, our favorite treat is getting ice cream at the Ice Cream Cafe or Arnold’s (which is right up the street).

We love our little cottage and truly enjoy sharing it with family and friends. If you are interested in renting our home away from home this spring, summer, or fall, we have a few prime weeks available in June, July, August, and September. Arnold’s owner is a huge Trump/MAGA supporter. Just saying.
But your cottage is what I miss about this peninsula I’ve grown up on (‘76 graduate of BHS), and I appreciate your stewardship of it all these years. When I returned from Vermont after a couple of decades away, I felt a jolt of culture shock. Many outsiders (and certain locals) have erased the many layers of history that were once a part of the material culture here, so thank you for your care. Sadly, I see the same thing happening out in the Berkshires. Take good care, and wishing your family well.
