With our collaborative textile upcycling FUNdraiser called Stitch-a-Long 3.0 right around the corner I thought it would be helpful to answer some of your questions…
If you are hearing about Stitch-a-Long 3.0 for the first time right now, you might want to learn more at this article in Ragtimes, and/or listen to this Rags to Riches Textile Upcycling Podcast episode with details.
Ok, now on to your questions…
Q: What exactly is Stitch-a-Long 3.0 (SAL3.0) is raising funds to support?
A: Mary Margaret Pettway needs a place to make bed-sized quilts. We met last spring when she presented at Rags to Riches Textile Upcycling Summit. During our work together she shared that she would just love to have a place big enough to do her quilting. She was dreaming of a quilting studio – SAL3.0 will help Mary Margaret Pettway of Gee’s Bend Alabama attain that goal – having her ideal quilting studio.
Q: What is the time commitment required for participating sewers?
A: Each participating sewer makes a 12”x12” square that is designed to be completed in our 4 hour-long instructional sewing circles – live on zoom. Of course sewers can get as detailed as they choose which will add to their time investment.
Q: When are the instructional sewing circles?
A: Instructional sewing circles are planned for Wednesdays and Sundays, August 21, 24, 28, and 31, 2022 at noon EST. Sessions will be taught by Sondra Primeaux of The UnRuffled, Mary Margaret Pettway of Gee’s Bend and me, Crispina ffrench. They will be recorded and posted in our Stitch-a-Long 3.0 Group in Stitcherhood for those who cannot attend live or to revisit afterward.
Q: How does the fundraising work?
A: Once sewing circles begin we launch the fundraising aspect of our collaboration. In addition to in-house focused fundraising, SAL3.0 sewers are provided marketing materials to help spread the word. A running tally of donations is posted in our SAL3.0 Members Group. We have already secured a match grant for all that we are able to raise!!
Q: When do the quilt squares need to be complete?
A: Quilt squares should be complete and postmarked no later than September 6 so that they can be compiled into the finished quilt we are making to raise money.
Q: Can I join Stitch-a-Long 3.0?
A: YES! Registration closes on August 19, 2022 and we get started sewing together just two days later on August 21.
